Questions for the Insurance Adjuster

Starting in the Right Direction

The First Step

The first action item is to help your customer learn about all the coverage they have, and there are many. It was amazing to find out how many people don’t know how much coverage or what is covered under their policy, even after talking with their adjuster. Right off the bat we would have each customer email a list of questions to their adjuster. Their adjuster is not their insurance agent, it should be noted, it is the initial representative of the insurance company assigned to their case that needs to receive these questions.

It is SO important that they email this list and request a response back in writing. Note some adjusters like to respond via a phone call, the problem being when a new adjuster is assigned the case and there will be multiple adjusters, there is no track record of what was said. The adjuster must respond in writing to the questions. There are multiple buckets of money that your customer has in their policy. They need to know what is in their policy and available to them. Once you get the list of different coverage’s, you will now know how much they have to rebuild their home, how much they have to clear their lot of fire debris.

What you and your customers need to know

  1. What is our dwelling coverage?
  2. What is the maximum replacement coverage for our dwelling? Do we have a coverage extension?
  3. Is there a time limit for us to rebuild?
  4. What is our coverage for landscape and fencing?
  5. Do we have ancillary/other structure coverage?
  6. What is our debris removal coverage?
  7. What is our code upgrade coverage?
  8. What is our coverage for housing while we rebuild? Is there a time limit on this coverage?
  9. What is our personal property coverage?
  10. Do we have any other coverage’s that are not mentioned above?
  11. If we decide to not rebuild, what is the cash payout? Is this a depreciated amount or will
  12. we be paid the cost of replacement?
  13. If we decide to build elsewhere (anywhere in the U.S.) how will that work?
