Designing The Home: Details

Once you receive the answers back from their adjuster on the List of Questions for Adjuster. You will now know the total of all the dwelling coverage and code enhancement numbers. Once we knew these amounts and were confident we could rebuild their home for the amounts provided, we started designing their new home.

We would even go as far as submitting the plans to the city. We did this before we got the insurance company’s official estimate. Sometimes it would take months before we received the official estimate. But we would never sign a contract or physically start a home until we got insurance approval of our estimate.

In order to save time, we gambled on paying for the plans and plan submittal fee to the City, without a contract. We knew there was a risk, the insurance company wouldn’t pay their full coverage (more on that next), but it ended up working out every time. We disclosed this to our customers and none minded the risk of moving forward on the design before final approval from the insurance company.

On one project, you may be simultaneously working on the logistics to get the lot cleared, the designing of the home and working costs out with the insurance company.
