Supporting The Contractors Rebuilding Lahaina

Lessons Learned from The Almeda Fire

The Insurance Process

Navigating the complexities of the insurance will be critical for a successful rebuilding process.

YOUR CUSTOMER – YOUR NEIGHBOR

The lessons we learned to help customers who have experienced trauma and how to best support their needs during the rebuilding process.

My Story

My name is Charlie Hamilton, I’m a builder and owner of Suncrest Homes in Talent Oregon. On Sept 8, 2020 a fire swept through our town and then next, burning 2500 homes to the ground in the process. It looked like war zone across the street from my office. Seeing the devastation on your island brings back all the difficult memories of what we experienced here. I am so sorry this also happened to your community. I’m compelled to share what we learned in completing 27 homes in 27 months. – I’m not selling anything nor do I want anything.

I just want to share what we learned in the rebuild process. I am by no means an expert in insurance. We made mistakes, but we did learn a number of items that made it easier to navigate this difficult process and support our customers. One of the main lessons was that we advocated for our customers – we led the charge with the insurance company – and helped them through every step of the process. We encourage you to do the same.
